2022 spring/summer trends by DOLITA

Here is a rhetorical question: How long could you go without fashion? The Italians would say: “Not ever for one moment”. Fashion, aesthetics, and quality are all part of our DNA. An excellent Italian saying: “Sono nata per la felicità” (I was born to be happy). Beyond sharing Italian fashion and delicious coffee with the world, this is what drives Italians to create works that can be seen as an ode to joy. Let’s celebrate life together!

We want to introduce the most notable fashion trends for the spring/summer 2022 season:

  • Pastel colors. Shoes resembling a painting!
  • Clogs. Newly discovered shapes
  • Ankle boots. A must-have this season!
  • The irreplaceable sneakers
  • The shape of the heel as a statement
  • Cake-lake shoe platform
  • 60s-inspired fashion. A new take on retro!
  • Slip-on summer holiday shoes
  • The most stylish summer choices: sandals and slippers

COLORS

We want colors! We need them as nature needs the sun and rain. The world has undergone some changes, and today footwear brands are increasingly focusing on the aesthetics of color and shape. White or cream tones, burgundy or red boots, and brightly colored knee-high boots stole the limelight. Yet, paradoxically, we want to enjoy life here and now, dress up and invest in quality items.

It may not be wrong to claim that one of the common phrases we have been using lately in our conversations is “I miss”. Colors have a significant impact on our psyche. People make up to 90 percent of their judgments based on color when purchasing products.

The way colors influence people’s well-being and overall health has been of great interest among marketing professionals and psychologists. There is even a term coined for this: “color psychology”. Jerald Kralik, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Dartmouth, U.S., claims that colors can affect even higher cognitive functions in our brains, including our thoughts, perceptions, emotions, feelings, will, memory, and imagination, among others.

How to match colors? A pair of bright-colored shoes from Dolita collection can become an essential and distinct element that adds color to your wardrobe. Here are some tips to help guide you through the process of matching different colors. You can use them as a reference for your daily outfit choices.

Many of us have also experienced that a certain color can immediately shift your mood, add weight to an object, or, on the contrary, give it a lighter feel. For example, white clothes look lighter than black ones. And rooms painted in pastel colors look cozier and warmer than, for instance, those painted in blue or grey.

Do you know why blue is considered a boy color, while pink is associated with girls? This color-based distinction emerged after World War II. Then, with the emergence of major retail chains, the so-called malls, the retailers came up with a solution to differentiate children’s clothing on the store shelves by making girls’ clothing available in pink and red, and boys’ clothing in bright blue and navy blue. But, paradoxically, red was considered a masculine color in the past.

The same can be said of other colors. From an anthropological perspective, different cultures have their unique history of colors, and they attribute special effects and meanings to different colors. The history of colors is fascinating. Sometimes we are not even aware of why some fashion items come in specific colors.

For example, it was only in Victorian times that the color of medical uniforms changed from black to white. Up until then, medicine was associated with alchemy and blood. The white color, which eventually replaced black, was associated with a new white page, a new beginning. Most importantly, it was associated with saints, which helped establish a dialogue between science and religion.

Specific colors invoke trust and have associations with premium class. The aristocracy has had an immense role in shaping our fashion today. The aristocrats of the Western world were expected to stand out with their distinctive styles. The rest of the society was uneducated. Ordinary people were left to educate themselves from religious paintings. They usually featured the colors of the gemstones: red, dark green, and purple. They often served as the background for depicting members of the aristocracy, and this conveyed an aura of trustworthiness in the eyes of ordinary citizens. As a result, the aristocracy greatly influenced culture and fashion. The status of aristocrats was even comparable to that of the saints.

Towards the end of each year, the Pantone Color Institute announces the defining color for the coming year. This year, the color of choice is PURPLE. Now let’s explore some historical facts. Have you ever wondered why the word “pink” subconsciously brings up images of magnificent paintings of the past centuries depicting kings and queens, emperors, or clergy members? Why is this color instantly associated with the elite and luxury? Throughout history, the intensity and shades of purple have also changed, depending on the locally available materials and production methods. The purple color came in various shades in the old paintings and textiles, from pastel lavender to dark, almost blueish tones.

3JUIN

Tyrian purple is one of the world’s oldest and best-known pink pigment colors. It is named after the city of Tyre as this dye pigment was mainly produced in Tyre and Sidon, the ancient cities of Phoenicia (present-day Lebanon). It is believed that the Phoenicians began producing purple pigments as early as 1600-1500 BC. Some theories suggest that the name “phoenixes” (purple people) was given to the people of Phoenicia by the ancient Greeks for the purple color of the dye manufactured and used in that region. Hence the name Phoenicia, the land of the purple.

Premiata

The production of purple pigments was a complex, lengthy and expensive process. The Phoenicians extracted the purple dye from the Bolinus brandaris, a gastropod mollusk. Purple came in different shades, even in ancient times. According to Roman historian Vitruvius (1st century BC), the purple dye obtained from the mollusks living in the northern waters had a more intense bluish shade than that extracted from the southern mollusks. It took as many as 9,000 mollusks to produce one gram of this dye pigment! The pigment was used to dye silk, linen, and wool. The resulting color was intense and rich. Surprisingly, it did not fade over time and became even more intense!

Mara Bini

The purple color was associated with a privileged background. The ancient Roman empresses gave birth in a “purple room”. Hence the name “porphyrogenitus” (born in purple) refers to the emperors. This term highlighted the difference between noble emperors and those who seized power by plotting against their rivals or through military force.

Premiata

In the early Christian period, following the collapse of the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire adopted the purple color as a symbol of royal power. Attempts were made to perpetuate the purple color tradition in later periods by replicating this color using other methods known in Europe at the time, e. g. by extracting it from certain species of lichens or mixing indigo blue with red. However, all these efforts came to nothing as it was impossible to obtain a color resembling the original purple color. Finally, in the 19th century, a breakthrough in color production occurred when English chemist William Henry Perkin invented a new color production technique. He originally named the color he had created “Tyrian purple” but later renamed it mauve or mauveine after the English name for mallow, a plant with bright purple flowers.

Pastel colors. Shoes resembling a painting!

To quote the words of Slovene writer Boris A. Novak, “Every painter is a big scribbler, and every child a little painter”. Pastel colors and their harmonious combinations transform each shoe model into a unique work of art. This season, the designers have placed a particular emphasis on colors: light, bright, summery, calm, optimistic, flamboyant, and refined.

#MillennialPink is also known as the color of today’s "Generation Y" youth. This generation is also called "Generation Maybe". These are digital natives who grew up exposed to the internet and social media. This color conveys teenage naivety, which manifests itself when coming of age. It is a safe color symbolizing childhood and dreams. Pink is a very democratic color that embodies gender equality. Welcome to a world of pink!

Clogs. Newly discovered shapes.

The return of national costumes and ancient footwear to fashion seems to predict the rise of national consciousness. This season, both Italian and Lithuanian designers have sent out their models on the catwalk wearing... clogs. It is to be added, however, that while some designers have unveiled stylized versions, others have delved fully into the treasure trove of folk costumes. Clogs are one of the most comfortable and stylish shoe models this season.

Premiata

For a long time, clogs were somewhat outcast from the fashion world, as they were associated with national heritage or shepherd’s shoes worn somewhere in the Alps. So who would have imagined that one day, clogs would be produced by the most luxurious fashion houses, and the clog craze would make it to the podiums of nearly all the most stylish fashion houses and be embraced by Instagram fashion influencers?

Premiata

A new take on clogs. Today, this type of footwear is an ultimate fashionistas’ must-have! It is one of the most distinctive trends for both women and men. Yes, you heard it correctly, clogs are also trending for men! The stylish Italian brand, Premiata, offers several exclusive models for men. Some of these shoes come in slip-on or sandal-like designs. It is a must-have for those who want to look as if they have come straight out of Vogue’s fashion photoshoot pages.

Ankle boots and ankle boots with chunky sole

This season will see a particular focus on fabric designs. Prominent trends include braided leather or perforated and cut leather designs. The collection hand-picked by DOLITA features leather ankle-high boots and ankle-high boots crafted in leather with technical nylon inserts. This type of shoe looks very light visually, but they also provide a comfortable fit, so you will be able to wear them throughout the day without any discomfort. These ankle-high boots, available in earthy colors, are a stylistically modernized version of combat boots which will be an ideal statement accessory. The line of Italian demi-season ankle-high boots is here to stay, and they will continue to shape the modern language of fashion. These ankle-high boots will win everyone's admiration with a masterful combination of abstraction and functionality.

What should we wear now? This is a question you often ask yourself when planning or updating your spring wardrobe. For example, light-colored boots match well with jeans, whereas dark, bright, or earthy tones go well with classic trousers or skirts. Both men and women should have a pair of ankle boots on their shopping list as you can wear this type of shoes both in the spring and early autumn. Also, it is no secret that they are perfect for summer: they look great when matched with shorts, light skirts, or dresses. All this is thanks to their lightweight and soft leather designs, which can help you add contrast and create a unique look.

The irreplaceable sneakers

Today wear tomorrow’s fashion. As we try to catch up with fashion innovations, it is essential to emphasize that our ideas about the distant future and the images we have seen in utopian fiction films are already gradually making their way to our wardrobe.

Premiata

Hidnander

This season’s must-haves when it comes to sneakers: futuristic design, chunky shapes, retro style, pastel tones, sustainable fashion, and much more.

Premiata

Premiata

Let’s start this journey through fashion trends from a pair of sneakers. When you have that inner dialogue with yourself about what to wear, a pair of sneakers will always be the right choice. Of course, you should observe the dress code where appropriate. But we are living in a fast-paced world, and after a busy day of multitasking, you sometimes need to go out in the evening for a dinner date with your friends. So opt for a pair of elegant shoes. If you are going on a trip and what to pack light, go for a pair of sneakers. It will also be a perfect choice if you plan a stylish European getaway for the weekend. They are the go-to shoe in any situation.

Hidnander

Elena Iachi

These are some of the stereotypical features we expect from future footwear: futuristic shoe shapes, metalized surfaces, element-resistant materials, incredible lightness, ultimate adaptation, or even an anatomic fit. We asked, “What will we wear in the future?” almost a decade ago, and we can now confidently say that the answer to this question is sneakers. But do not stick only to futuristic designs or cosmic fiction materials. Besides introducing new design trends, we want to invite you to discover the ultimate in comfort and functionality.

Banu

The name “sneaker” comes from the English word “sneak”, meaning to go or move in a quiet, stealthy way. But, paradoxically, the sneakers were far from quiet from the outset. Instead, they showed up loudly and declared to the world boldly: “We are here!”. And that unbounded “here” conquered sports arenas and fashion podiums and took the shoe stores by storm. And that time has become a constant! A timeless constant in fashion, a pair of stylish sneakers will always be a worthwhile investment.

Iceberg

Are chunky soles still in style? As showcased and claimed by many designers, blogs, and fashion shows, the fashion trends of 2022 are all about chunky sneakers, also known as chunky-sole or dad sneakers. In addition, classic, retro-style shoe designs are also claiming the limelight this season. Prominent colors include pastel, milky white, and earthy tones.

Premiata

This year, our collection is dominated by pastel and contrasting colors inspired by Pop culture, leather and technical nylon inserts, elegant designs with hand-cut flowers, and ultra-modern models. Also, “snockers” type of shoes are back in style. Their popularity is also explained by our fast-paced lifestyle and the need for “slip-on and go” shoes. We live in an era where time is considered a precious resource, and even a few extra minutes saved on shoe tying every morning are very important. Such consumer needs dictate the direction that designers are moving. We are now sharing the final result – sock sneakers –which are definitely worth your attention. Practicality, functionality, and materiality are brought to the forefront of women’s and men’s fashion. Extremely lightweight rubber outsoles, durable Vibram soles, vulcanized rubber – designers have developed all these elements to ensure maximum wearing comfort for customers.

There is also a strong focus on sustainability. The concept of the RUN OF brand is based on experimentation, creative process, and combinations of colors and textures. These sports shoes are produced only in Italy to ensure top quality and durability without pursuing purity. They combine various materials, including recycled fabrics, nylon, and natural leather.

Premiata surprises us every season not only with the color palette of their collections but also with new shapes and platforms. This season, their collection includes a relatively large number of sports shoes featuring extremely lightweight platform soles, textile and leather combinations, pastel colors, and bright details. In addition, some shoe models have been launched as special editions. The collection also offers eclectic designs and combinations of different fabrics and patterns. We strive to offer our customers the most original designs when hand-picking our collections. So, the shoe brand beloved by our customers is introducing more innovations than ever this season.

What’s next for the shoe industry? Today, experts unanimously believe that the next breakthrough will come from 3D printing technology developed by American engineer Chuck Hull back in 1983. The author himself calls this process layering because a new object is created from almost nothing by simply gluing one layer of material until a complete product is made.

The shape of the heel as a statement

A footwear boom began in the second half of the 20th century with the emergence of American Pop culture, which was associated with a desire to stand out, be unique, and belong to a certain subculture. Lower prices of raw materials, new structural innovations, and a changed lifestyle have led to changes in the image of a gentleman and that of a lady, and luxurious. High-quality footwear gave way to trendy, constantly changing colorful footwear. Hollywood actors and singers played an essential role in shaping and popularising footwear fashion. The Chelsea boots were made famous by the Beatles, the classic low-heel shoes, known as the kitten heel, were popularised by actress Audrey Hepburn, and the so-called Mary Jane was a shoe of choice among the schoolgirls in the 1940s.

Mattia Cappezani

An increasing number of women in employment brought about changes in high-heeled shoe fashion. The platform shoes popular in the 1960s and 1970s lost their popularity in the 1980s and gave way to low heels.

Premiata

Today, a heel becomes a statement-making element. Italians claim that sometimes one small detail added to a pair of shoes is enough to impress customers. Given their track record as great design creators and geniuses, we cannot argue their point.

Some designers have been inspired by architecture, whereas others have drawn inspiration from furniture design. For some, inspiration comes from the forms and shapes found in nature; for others, it comes from cosmic fiction. Cake-lake shoe platform

It is said that inspiration comes from everywhere in fashion. Designers can be inspired by everything around us. But have you ever imagined that pastries like French macarons or chocolate muffins, or, to be more exact, their shapes, could become a source of inspiration for designers? We are now witnessing that! Let’s explore these sweet fashion trends.

Elena Iachi

The platform shoe is one of the biggest trends this season. Shoes with a chunky sole resemble a cloud cake filled with cream. And thanks to modern technology and the materials used, this type of footwear is lightweight.

Premiata

Italian designers experiment playfully with shoe fashion like masters of haute cuisine. Their collections do not feature over-the-top or overly sugary designs; on the contrary, they are dominated by rather minimalist forms, with the sole acting as a statement element.

Elena Iachi uses a lightweight rubber foam sole, whereas the Vic Matie collection embraces a cast sole. Strategia shoe sole covered with a technical satin fabric looks like a cake with a caramel topping.

And who else, if not Italians, could create such things? Some resemble the traditional Italian Panettone cake, whereas others may remind you of "gelato" (eng. ice cream). So, please drop by for a cup of espresso and check out our delicious footwear collection.

60s-inspired fashion. A new take on retro!

Retro fashion is always relevant. It often serves as the main point of departure for an entire footwear collection. Fashion is fascinating in that it is constantly changing: what is fashionable today may look obsolete tomorrow, and what appears as a completely unfashionable item of clothing may be the garment of choice next year. Thus, it is no surprise that the shapes, accessories, and colors once worn by our mothers and grandmothers are back in style. However, today’s designs have not been copied blindly but have been ingeniously updated with new shapes, colors, and fabrics.

Mara Bini

The same holds for retro shoes. The Italian brand Ixos and the Spanish brand Chie Mihara have embraced the retro style in many of their collections in terms of colors, shapes, patterns, leather, or fabric textures. Their shoe models also share a Cuban tango heel, round nose, and shiny, pearlescent leather.

Chie Mihara

The Halmanera and Mara Bini collections also feature many elements harking back to the fashion of the past decades, with geometric heels, childhood sandal shapes, square-toe shoes, and pastel colors dominating their collections.

The pin-up style has also become a source of inspiration in footwear fashion. You have probably heard about "pin-up" singers' stage images numerous times. This genre with elements of eroticism harks back to the 1940s, when the sultry images created by famous artists George Pett, Rolf Armstrong, and Gil Elvgren, including those depicting Marilyn Monroe, were featured in calendars and posters found on the walls of car showrooms or dorm rooms.

Slip-on summer holiday shoes

When selecting the most important trends of the season and trying to identify the defining elements in footwear, it is easy to get lost amidst dozens of sheets of paper filled with the names of footwear brands and designers, the dizzying color palette of the season, and endless notes. But maybe there is another way to look at the fashion trends? Instead of just focusing on aesthetics, we can also explore a particular aspect of one specific kind of shoe, i. e. slip-ons, and the ultimate comfort they offer. That was precisely our approach at DOLITA when hand-picking the most prominent footwear trends for you this season.

What are the most important for slip-on shoes? The answer is quite simple but significant: structure, leather, and sole!

The seamless, envelope-like Sacchetto design is an underlying feature in most of the shoes in our collection, adding a unique character to it. Sacchetto is an Italian word meaning a small sack. This shoemaking technique requires great care, knowledge, and precision. First, each piece of leather is exclusively cut by hand. A leather pouch is then sewn from leather, turned inside out, and sewn by hand to the shoe's sole. The virtually seamless structure gives the shoe added softness, flexibility, and lightness and ensures ultimate comfort while wearing it.

Sacchetto construction

The most stylish summer choices: sandals and slippers

When preparing for a holiday trip, choosing the proper footwear is one of the most critical decisions, so it is essential to think in advance about what type of footwear you will need and consider the specific characteristics of particular shoes. The dominant features of the designer footwear collections offered by Dolita include minimalist style, eclectic design, a subtle unfinished look, and punk details. They immediately transport you to the jungle, desert, mountains, seaside, or other exotic holiday spots. To the places where the intricate high-heeled design loses its meaning, comfort and style take center stage. These kinds of trips have been the inspiration for our latest spring/summer footwear collection. It is all about sandals and slippers.

Banu. These are real works of art! A footwear brand produces futuristic-style sneakers for both men and women. The company came into existence a few years ago when the company's founders developed the first model created with a 3D printer – a pair of lightweight sneakers with a chunky sole and leather lining. Utilizing the 3D technology, the designers have since continued to create unique shoe models, unlike anything we have ever seen before. In addition, these are unisex models that erase all boundaries between male and female style standards.

The philosophy behind their work is branding a new universe. The unique shape of the shoe components and sole is achieved thanks to a 3D printing technique. Vivid colors dominate the brand’s collection, and it uses a variety of materials: rubber, epoxy resin, translucent textiles, and soft leather.

Fashion is fascinating when there are more interpretations than we might expect behind the fashion items. It is also at its best when it organically blurs the line between “beautiful” and “bizarre,” between “trendy” and “too brave for me”. And when we treat fashion like a game where we all are players is when fashion is at its most attractive. Fashion is also most fascinating when it surprises us, makes us passionate about it, and makes us want to look fancy.

To sum up the latest trends and collections, it can be said that this season fashion is interwoven into our daily lives like never before. Thus, minimalism, which became a prominent motif a few years ago, is gradually transforming and changing, and the designers are increasingly turning to the past, combining the trends of the past decades with modern or even futuristic design. People in Italy and Spain claim that while fashion trends are constantly changing and we can discover them anew or interpret them, genuine craftsmanship traditions are here to stay forever. It is a game walking the line between values and design, tradition and fashion.
